Do I Really Need a Business Card?

Absolutely. Get some today.

But here is a word of advice. Your business card is one of the most important components of your brand. Make sure that your business card reflects quality and class.

Business cards are relatively inexpensive to purchase. You can purchase them online at any one of three good online services. But, don’t get the free ones. I have never seen a free card that impressed me. And, the website’s advertisement is on the back. If your brand is frugal…fine. If your brand is professional, go for the top of the line.

Be careful with the graphics unless you are in the creative business.

Computer generated business cards are not appropriate. Don’t use them.

Make sure you have a good tag line that explains what role you are looking to fill. For example, “Marketing Professional” or “Business Development Professional”.

Many professionals who are in transition start a consulting business. I think this is a great strategy. Your business card should reflect the type of consulting services that you will provide.

Remember, when you hand a person your resume, you are looking for a job. When you had them your business card, you are offering them with a solution. Most often a consulting assignment leads to a full time role.

Or better yet, you may be so good…that you will not have to work for someone else again!
